Projects aimed at improving stormwater management and alleviating widespread flooding in the Central Beach District are being planned.
As of August 2025, the design consultant is reviewing and incorporating the City’s comments on the preliminary engineering report (PER).
This project is funded by CIPs 100062, 100061 and 100275.
There will be an informational meeting on proposed drainage improvements from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, at Virginia Beach Middle School, 600 25th Street.
The Central Resort District Master Project program area is over 600 acres, extending from Atlantic Avenue to the east, Birdneck Road to the west, Laskin Road to the north, and 17th Street to the south.
The Central Resort District Bundle includes three CIP projects, which will be evaluated together to study hydraulic impacts within Beach Garden Park, Old Beach Neighborhood, and Central Beach. These projects are looking at pump stations and culvert upgrades along Little Neck Creek drainage ditch between I-264 and Laskin Road, replacing under-sized and inadequate drainage within the program area, and storm tide and sea level rise mitigation at Laskin Road using tide gates.
