Current Status & Next Steps

The project construction is complete. The project is funded by the Lynnhaven River Water Quality II Capital Improvement Project (CIP) 100264.

Purpose of the Project

The project will be constructed in Lynnhaven Park adjacent to Bayne Drive. The constructed wetlands will treat stormwater from the roadway, the Lynnhaven Middle School and other adjacent areas. It will:

  • Improve water quality of the Lynnhaven River.
  • Support beneficial uses of our local waterway like swimming and fishing.

How the Project Achieves Purpose

The project will install a constructed wetlands stormwater management facility. This facility will include features that have been determined to effectively remove sediment and nutrients like phosphorous and nitrogen from stormwater.

The facility will also provide other ecological benefits for wildlife by providing them a habitat. The project will install a variety of native flowering wetland species. Other benefits:

  • Forebays and a main pool area will remove sediment from stormwater.
  • Wetland plants remove nutrients through natural processes.
