Public Facilities oversees the construction, maintenance and renovation of the City’s buildings, caring for the foundations of our community.
The Office of Public Facilities is directly responsible for the ongoing maintenance and renovation of nearly 700 public buildings and related infrastructure, and the construction of new properties.
It is also responsible for 30 Capital Improvement Program projects with a combined budget of $467 million, covering areas such as HVAC replacements, facility renovations, upgrades to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, ongoing maintenance and more.
These properties and projects all play a vital role in the quality of life for the 453,000 individuals who call Virginia Beach home, in addition to the 7,000-member strong workforce that carries out the City’s day-to-day business.
The Office represents an investment our community and a recognition that the work it does – maintenance, construction, renovation and continuous improvement – are not merely a luxury, but a necessity to ensure a legacy of good governance and quality service to our residents.
