When You Arrive

Please advise gate attendant if you are dropping off items for the Resource Recovery Center or Household Hazardous Waste to be directed to the correct location.

The Resource Recovery Center facility at the Landfill provides free disposal or recycling of a variety of materials that can be averted from the landfill.

Visitors to the Landfill and Resource Recovery Center are expected to abide by documented policies including proof of residency, restrictions on vehicle type, and trailers. Please see the Policies & City Code Section for more information.

Accepted Items

  • Concrete, brick, and stone
    • These materials must be clean and free of steel reinforcements and other contaminants.
    • These materials are crushed and used in a variety of City projects, saving the cost of buying new material.
  • Cooking grease and oil
  • Electronics (e-cycling)
    • Calculators, cameras, cell phones, computer monitors, computers, DVD players, electronic scanners, electronic tablets, e-readers, facsimile machines, laptops, MP3 players, radios, televisions, and teletypewriters (TTY).
    • Make sure to delete all personal information from your electronics and remove any batteries as they may need to be recycled separately.
    • Cathode-ray tube (CRT) containing electronics are not accepted.
  • Metals, appliances, equipment
    • Metal bed frames, aluminum, electrical cords, ferrous metals (metals containing iron that a magnet will stick to), lawn mowers, metal lawn furniture, stainless steel appliances.
  • Brush & tree branches
    • Branches and limbs less than four feet in length and less than six inches in diameter. Branches larger than six inches in diameter must be cut lengthwise into pieces no longer than 18 inches.
    • Brush and Tree Branches entering the landfill cannot be transported in a trailer due to the potential fire risk.
    • No other yard waste (commercial, leaves, grass clippings, tree stumps, limbs larger than six inches in diameter) will be accepted.
    • Residential yard waste can also be disposed of through weekly curbside services.
    • These materials are mulched and used at City parks and facilities, saving the cost of buying new material.
  • Oyster shells
    • Residents can bring in oyster shells of any amount.
    • The Landfill and Resource Recovery Center is the storage and curing site for residential drop-offs as well as oyster shells collected from local restaurants and public drop off areas as part of the City’s Oyster Heritage Plan.
    • Reclaimed oyster shells are used for the restoration of oyster habitats.
  • Porcelain
    • Toilets and sinks must be stripped of plastic and metal parts and pieces.
    • No non-porcelain fixtures (like cast cultured plastics) are accepted at the Resource Recovery Center, but may be disposed of in the landfill.
  • Tires
    • Up to four automobile or light truck tires (with or without rims) can be disposed of per visit.
    • Tires can be shredded at a local facility and used in a variety of ways.
