Curbside Recycling Services

Curbside recycling collection (blue carts) occurs every other week on your designated trash day as determined by your address. Use the “Find My Trash Day” tool on this page to determine when your next scheduled recycling collection day is.

Curbside Recycling Collection Rules & Regulations

• Do not bag recyclables.
• Blue recycling carts should be placed curbside between 5 p.m. the day prior to your scheduled collection day and 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day.
• Please allow 3 feet of space between collection items and other obstacles such as mailboxes, utility poles, and vehicles. Do not place carts under low-hanging wires or tree limbs.
• Cart lids should be able to close securely. Overflowing carts will not be collected.
• All recycling must be inside the cart unless you are a townhome resident with 18-gallon recycling bin container service in which case additional recyclables can be placed in paper bags next to their container.
• Carts should be removed from the curbside and placed out of public view by the end of your scheduled collection day.

• Rechargeable batteries (Lithium Ion, Ni-Cd)
• Rechargeable devices
• Propane tanks & fuel canisters
• Plastic bags and plastic film
• Household garbage
• Hazardous waste
• Polystyrene (Styrofoam)
• Appliances
• Electronics
• Automotive parts
• Ceramics, sheet glass/mirrors, ovenware

Items not accepted in the curbside waste collection program can be taken the City’s Landfill and Resource Recovery Center. More information is available on the Landfill and Resource Recovery Center webpage.

Residents who are unable to physically bring their cart to the curbside should contact customer service by email at wastemgt@vbgov.com or phone at 757-385-4650 to coordinate courtesy service.
