Closure Notice

From August 2026 through early spring 2027, Cape Henry Drive and the adjacent trail will be closed between Kleen Street and Urchin Road for water, sewer and stormwater upgrades, plus canal widening and deepening.

  • Access for residents and businesses will continue
  • Trash pickup, mail and emergency services will continue without interruption
  • Detours will be in place for drivers and pedestrians
  • Modifications to these detours may be needed to facilitate work and accommodate adjacent construction

Project Update | September 2026

  • The City of Virginia Beach has awarded the Eastern Shore Drive Phase I Section I project to Ryan Infrastructure.
  • Work has begun at both pump station site locations, Lynnhaven Colony Park and Lynnhaven Drive, along with the first phase of the Widening and Deepening of the Cape Henry Canal.
  • This project is funded by CIPs 100538, 100167, 100150, 100153, and 100598.
