The Public Works Waste Management Group provides waste management solutions for the residents of Virginia Beach which improves public health and provides a high quality of life. Primary collection services include:
- Weekly curbside collection of residential garbage and yard debris
- Every other week collection of recyclables
- On-call collection of bulky items
- Rental of yard debris containers
Additionally, the Department:
- Administers the City’s household hazardous waste (HHW) program
- Monitors and maintains the city Landfill and Resource Recovery Center
- Operates two recycling drop-off centers.
Waste Management also serves City Council initiatives through VB Clean Community Commission. This City Council-appointed group of volunteers undertakes the task of promoting litter prevention, recycling, beautification, and general environmental awareness through educational projects designed to reach all segments of our community. The Clean Community Commission and Waste Management work together to provide great volunteer opportunities for Virginia Beach residents.
