Project Status

Current Status & Next Steps

As of September 2024, the project is at 97% design completion and the environmental permits have been obtained. The project has also been approved for a Stormwater Local Assistance Fund (SLAF) grant to cover approximately 75% of the project cost with the balance being funded by Capital Improvement Project (CIP) 100032.

Purpose of the Project

The lake improvements will help remove pollutants from stormwater runoff discharged to the lake, and the pollutant removal benefits will be credited toward the City's requirement under the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load.

How the Project Improves Water Quality

This project will create two new sediment forebays that will capture sediment and pollutants from stormwater runoff before it flows to the main body of the lake. In addition to the forebays, new wetlands areas and an aquatic bench will be constructed to remove stormwater pollutants via natural physical, chemical, and biological processes.
