Project Status

Current Status & Next Steps

The project design and bid documents were completed in May 2024. Construction is scheduled to being in November 2025. The project is funded by Capital Improvement Project (CIP) 100264.

Purpose of the Project

This project will support beneficial uses of local waterways, such as swimming and fishing. The project will be constructed in the Oceana Gardens neighborhood adjacent to Sykes Avenue. The constructed wetlands will treat stormwater from the commercial area west of Sykes Avenue.

How the Project Achieves Purpose

The project will install a constructed wetlands stormwater management facility. The constructed wetlands will provide wildlife habitat and improve water quality through the incorporation of the following features that will help remove sediment and excess nutrients from stormwater runoff:

  • Pretreatment forebay - allows sediment to settle out.
  • Two wetlands cells - provide habitat, sediment capture, and nutrient removal.
  • Native plants - take up excess phosphorus and nitrogen.
