Project Status

Current Status & Next Steps

The design is underway and will be completed by December 2025. This project is funded by Capital Improvement Project (CIP) 100264. The public involvement period was held from April 28
to May 12, 2025.

Purpose of the Project

The project will improve downstream water quality by removing pollutants and nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen from stormwater runoff. The pollutant reduction achieved by this project will be applied towards implementation of the City's local phosphorus total maximum daily load action plan.

How the Project Achieves Purpose

This project will restore the shoreline at Saw Pen Point Park to prevent erosion and create wetlands. These shoreline management practices will restore the eroded shoreline and protect it from future erosion as a pollutant reduction practice following Chesapeake Bay Program Expert Panel recommendations. The project will reduce stormwater pollutants entering the western branch of the Lynnhaven River.
