Project Status

Current Status & Next Steps

As of May 2024, the project is under construction and is approximately 99% complete. The project is expected to be completed in October 2024. This project is funded by Capital Improvement Project (CIP) 100353.

Purpose of the Project

The project removes an existing dry extended detention pond with maintenance issues and replaces it with a new wet swale located in Seatack Park. The project provides additional stormwater benefits, which will be applied toward implementation of the City's local bacteria total maximum daily load action plan, along with future planned improvements to Seatack Park.

How the Project Achieves Purpose

The wet swale removes pollutants from stormwater runoff by incorporating gentle side slopes that direct stormwater toward native wetland plantings. Native wetland plants help to trap sediment and bacteria and take up excess nutrients from runoff before it enters Rudee Inlet. Once established, native plants require less maintenance to thrive.
